Tasting Notes

Hand-picked, mixed heirloom, both Rainforest Alliance and Organic certified. This intensely flavorful highland forest Ethiopian coffee blooms with lush perfume-like floral notes. Flavors of lemon and fruit jam are rounded by a sugarcane sweetness.

95 Points Coffee Review December 2019

"Blind Assessment: Delicate, complex, multi-layered. Bergamot, dark chocolate, nougat, narcissus, cedar in aroma and cup. Richly sweet-savory structure with citrusy acidity; full, syrupy mouthfeel. The floral- and fruit-driven finish is supported by chocolate and aromatic wood notes."

Background Info

Suke Quto sits within the Guji zone of Sidamo in the south of Ethiopia, surrounded by mountains and covered by dense forest. After a brush fire more than a decade ago Tesfaye Bekele started Suke Quto farm as a project to help with forest conservation. He distributed shade tree seedlings along with seeds of Ethiopian heirloom coffee varieties like Wolisho and Kurume to 150 members of the community that worked to replant the forest. These growers are paid a premium to bring only the ripest cherries to Suke Quto farm for processing. At the farm they do washed, natural processing and also a honey process, which is quite rare for Ethiopia.

What Is 100% Kona Coffee?

100% Kona coffee refers to coffee grown exclusively in the Kona district of Hawai‘i Island — a small, volcanic region
along the western slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa. The combination of mineral-rich soil, afternoon cloud cover, and gentle trade winds produces one of the world’s most distinctive coffee terroirs.

To be labeled “100% Kona Coffee,” every bean must be grown within the Kona district and meet strict Hawai‘i grading quality standards. Kona coffee can be made from different arabica varieties, but Kona Typica — a heirloom lineage — remains the region’s most common and traditional cultivar.
