Tasting Notes

Refreshingly fruity, with a vibrant acidity. Passionfruit, Black Grape Guava.

 94 points by Coffee Review

"Richly fruit-toned, complex. Dried mango, cocoa nib, cascara (coffee cherry tea), lilac, cedar in aroma and cup. Bittersweet structure with winy acidity; satiny-smooth mouthfeel. Fruit-driven finish with a bittersweet undercurrent that lends complexity."

Background Info

Our signature washed process and an evolution of the Tropical punch washed we introduced in 2021.  Several fermentations are blended together to create an overall flavor perception similar to fruit punch. This season we are using 4 yeast strains. Some provide Tropical fruit notes, while others add more cherry, grape, and berry like flavors.

The cherries are pulped and then fermented in sealed bags, each one with a different yeast strain in it. After fermentation and drying separately, the coffees are blended back together for milling.

This batch of Tropical Punch Washed we made from Red Catuai and Red Bourbon from Miranda farms southpoint farm at 2000-2100ft elevation

This coffee has proved very popular at our Hilo, Hawaii retail shop and is refreshing hot or cold.

What Is 100% Kona Coffee?

100% Kona coffee refers to coffee grown exclusively in the Kona district of Hawai‘i Island — a small, volcanic region
along the western slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa. The combination of mineral-rich soil, afternoon cloud cover, and gentle trade winds produces one of the world’s most distinctive coffee terroirs.

To be labeled “100% Kona Coffee,” every bean must be grown within the Kona district and meet strict Hawai‘i grading quality standards. Kona coffee can be made from different arabica varieties, but Kona Typica — a heirloom lineage — remains the region’s most common and traditional cultivar.
