Background Info

An ancient coffee re-invented.

Yemen was the first country to commercial cultivate coffee and this coffee comes from a region that has been producing coffee for at least 700 years. Our coffee comes from 3 growers in Al-Obbarat village in the Al-Haimah region. This coffee was grown by Mohammed Massaud, Khalid Abdullah, and Hussien Nassar at 2200-2500m. Among the highest growing elevation anywhere in the world. These coffees are dried whole in the cherry on raised beds and on rooftops.

Until very recently freshly harvested, ripe cherry naturals were almost unheard of from Yemen and coffees from this country were notoriously variable in quality.  These new specialty Yemen coffees however are some of the most incredible and distinctive in the world with spice and incense like aromas you just don't come across in natural process coffees from other countries. Most of the varieties grown here are unique to Yemen although closely related to the Typica variety. This coffee was airfreighted to us directly from the farms. A truly special coffee we hope you enjoy!

What Is 100% Kona Coffee?

100% Kona coffee refers to coffee grown exclusively in the Kona district of Hawai‘i Island — a small, volcanic region
along the western slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa. The combination of mineral-rich soil, afternoon cloud cover, and gentle trade winds produces one of the world’s most distinctive coffee terroirs.

To be labeled “100% Kona Coffee,” every bean must be grown within the Kona district and meet strict Hawai‘i grading quality standards. Kona coffee can be made from different arabica varieties, but Kona Typica — a heirloom lineage — remains the region’s most common and traditional cultivar.
