Background Info

La Tortuga is a coffee characterized for its unique and magical geographic location. The Galapagos Islands are a beautiful Ecuadorian archipelago of volcanic islands located in the Pacific Ocean, 906km from continental Ecuador. The Galapagos are famous for being the place were Darwin developed his theory of evolution, due to the vast number of unique species that he found there during his voyage in 1836, including the famous 100-year-old giant tortoises.

Galapagos is not only home to birds, sea lions, iguanas, dolphins, and gulls, but also to the exotic coffee of La Tortuga. The Cooperativa de Cafetaleros de Galapagos, composed of more than 80 producers, started in 1997 with the purpose of protecting the coffee industry while conserving the natural environment. The cooperative grows coffee of the Caturra, Typica, and Bourbon varieties at 200-450m altitude. The coffee is dry fermented over night and then dried in the sun.

What Is 100% Kona Coffee?

100% Kona coffee refers to coffee grown exclusively in the Kona district of Hawai‘i Island — a small, volcanic region
along the western slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa. The combination of mineral-rich soil, afternoon cloud cover, and gentle trade winds produces one of the world’s most distinctive coffee terroirs.

To be labeled “100% Kona Coffee,” every bean must be grown within the Kona district and meet strict Hawai‘i grading quality standards. Kona coffee can be made from different arabica varieties, but Kona Typica — a heirloom lineage — remains the region’s most common and traditional cultivar.
