Several years ago while judging the Cup of Excellence competition in neighboring Honduras, They were very impressed by the quality of the coffees and the altitudes available to growers here. They decided to purchase some land at high elevation: 1600-1700m and plant a selection of their best varieties from their farms in Nicaragua. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEthiosar is a hybrid they brought back from Brazil a decade ago. Reported to be a cross of Rume Sudan x Sarchimor, back-crossed to Villa Sarchi which is one of the parents of the Sarchimor hybrid. This variety is currently limited to but a handful of farms and is produced in very small quantities. In early 2021 The Mierisch family  held an online auction for their best cupping coffees from Their Nicaragua Farms. Judged by an international panel of experienced Cup of Excellence judges. An Ethiosar variety coffee ended up taking the top spot with a score of 90.30.
