Colombia Chiroso Natural - Wilson Roldan
Lime Zest, Tart Cherry, Peach, Caramel. Bright, focused acidity with a lingering caramel aftertaste.
Chiroso is a little known variety grown on just a handful of farms in the Antioquia region of northern Colombia. In 2014 a coffee of this variety won the Colombia cup of excellence. and then this past year, 2020 it won again!
Chiroso productive plant, with excellent cup quality and has begun to be grown on several farms in Antioquia now along with a handful of young plantings beginning recently in other regions. Sometimes also called Caturra Chiroso as the plants high production of cherries resembles the Caturra variety, In actuality recent genetic testing has shown this variety to be an Ethiopian Land race. one of many that was probably once part of field trials in Colombia decades ago, now being planted for its combination of great cup quality and yeilds.
This is our first time to be able to feature this variety. This coffee comes from the farm of Wilson Roldan in Caicedo, Antioquia. A tiny lot he processed as a natural. drying the coffee in the fruit. We purchased all 35lb of this coffee, most of which was sent to our Rare Coffees Tour Subscribers. We have just 25x 4oz bags left available of this coffee roasting on Wednesday.
