Process: Washed Variety: Pink Bourbon
Colombia Pink Bourbon
Pink lemonade, raspberry and jasmine. Plush, elegant, sweet.
Pink Bourbon is a rare hybrid of Red and Yellow Bourbon - far more uncommon than either Geisha or Pacamara. This particular lot comes from Alvaro Perdomo of Acevedo, Colombia. He produced only a few hundred pounds of this variety from his 25 hectare farm 'Finca Providencia'.
Despite its mesmorizing cup profile, farmers prefer not to grow it because of its wispy yields and the challenge pickers experience when harvesting something light pink (it persistently appears underripe). We should know: our Hawaiian Pink Bourbon won 1st place - Grand Champion - in the annual Hawaii Coffee Association Cupping Competition in 2013. Even still, you won’t catch us planting any more of it. The variety's low yield and general fragility makes it a risky proposition, despite the incredible cup. Find out why we like to call this micro-lot Pink Bourbon the “Cognac of coffee.”
