Finca El Roble
Finca El Roble is located in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia and run by Albeiro de Jesus Ramirez Aguirre. The farm sits at an elevation of approximately 1,980 m.a.s.l. and this particular lot is 100% Chiroso.
Albeiro purchased El Roble in 2015, but he is not new to farming. Coffee production is a family tradition and he remembers being around coffee since he was 7 years old. The previous owners of El Roble were older and the farm was ready to be renovated. Albeiro planted 6,200 trees which are currently producing and an additional 1,400 newer trees. In addition to coffee, he and his wife produce avocados, plantains, and bananas.
El Roble’s submission to the 2022 Antioquia Magico contest earned 3rd place.
Chiroso Variety
Chiroso is a little known variety currently grown on just a handful of farms in the Antioquia region of northern Colombia. In 2014 a coffee of this variety won the Colombia cup of excellence. and then in 2020 it won again!
Chiroso is a productive plant, with excellent cup quality and has begun to be grown on several farms in Antioquia now along with a handful of young plantings beginning recently in other regions. Sometimes also called Caturra Chiroso as the plants high production of cherries resembles the Caturra variety, In actuality recent genetic testing has shown this variety to be an Ethiopian Land race. One of many that was probably once part of field trials in Colombia decades ago, now being planted for its combination of great cup quality and good productivity.
